Kwesé gets critically-acclaimed channel Viceland

Vice and Econet Media will bring Viceland, the global youth brand’s new critically-acclaimed lifestyle and cultural TV channel, to 17 countries across Africa by the end of 2017.

Econet Media, a subsidiary of the globally networked Econet Group, is a multi-platform entertainment business which aims to deliver a diverse range of content to sub-Saharan African audiences through the upcoming roll-out of its Kwesé TV brand.

The 24-hour channel will be distributed through Econet Media and will be available exclusively on Kwesé TV, which will offer programming on both internet and satellite based platforms when it launches. All programming, which will air in English, will be programmed, developed and produced entirely in-house by VICE’s award-winning creative team.

Viceland will be broadcast across Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Swaziland, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Tanzania (incl Zanzibar), Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Oscar-winning film director, Spike Jonze, serves as Co-President of VICELAND and is overseeing the development of the new channel.  Programming will focus on a distinct, immersive style of original lifestyle and culture content for young viewers.

Speaking for Econet Media CEO Joseph Hundah says, “With its focus on music, fashion, technology and more, Viceland is a dynamic and contemporary entertainment channel whose success is driven by an outstanding VICE vision for youth TV.
