The Undergrads – an Original African Series

12:30 SAST | 20 Jan 2017

The Undergrads explores the educational and social challenges of a group of African university students on Kwesé Prime (Ch 100, Mondays at 20:30 CAT).

The series covers some common types of students, namely: ‘paid-to-plays’, nerds, players, and ‘gossip girls’. Paid-to-plays, Sandra and Aisha in the series, are the rich-kids whose parents can afford to support them while they have fun. But, as The Undergrads shows, even the good life has its drawbacks.

Then there are the nerds - Lami, Kate and Aliu. You’ll mostly find them buried under a pile of books, but never partying…well almost never. Even nerds need to cut loose every now and again. On the opposite end from the nerd is the player. We all no one, and we’ve all been hurt by one. Sam and Tunde have the looks and the attitude to wow the ladies, but don’t expect them to hang in there for the long haul. What do they say about a woman scorned?

A player is often a source of conversation for a gossip girl. Students, like Sikirat in The Undergrads, deal in the currency of gossip, and yet weirdly they remain popular, with a wide circle of friends.
