Kwesé Prime is all about prime entertainment, where we bring you exclusive shows that are redefining our world and shaping the cultural landscape.

Hip hop is an underground music and cultural movement that began in the Bronx, New York City, in the 1970s. DJ ‘Kool Herc’ Campbell and other pioneers of hip hop borrowed on the drum rhythms of Africa to create an urgent new sound of the streets.

The Internet and social media have helped to spread hip hop, turning it into a worldwide phenomenon, with the most famous artists enjoying celebrity stardom. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to be part of a celebrity hip hop family, then catch Growing Up Hip Hop (Kwesé Prime, Wednesdays at 21:30 CAT). It’s a reality show that follows the lives of the offspring of hip hop stars as they chart their own path to success. Take a peek into the exciting and crazy lives of Kristinia DeBarge, TJ Mizell, Angela Simmons, Egypt Crisis, Damon Dash, Romeo Miller and other interesting characters who are part of the hip hop elite.

If you ever dreamt of making it in the fashion world, you’ll want to catch Project Runway: Fashion Startup (Sundays at 19:00 CAT). Ambitious young fashion entrepreneurs pitch their big idea to a panel of successful fashion and beauty businesspeople. The hopefuls pitch for investment, and the panel decide whether to spend their own hard-earned time and money on the idea, or deliver some tough-love advice.

For too long non-Africans have been telling Africa’s stories. Kingmakers (Thursdays at 21:00 CAT) is a 13-part African drama series that follows the bitter fight for leadership of Karombe - a fictional African nation. It’s set in the UK, France, America and Africa, and relates a complex narrative of love, honour, murder, and betrayal. If you’d like an insight into how politics and power play out in Africa, then don’t miss Kingmakers on Kwesé Prime.

In 1992 the relationship counsellor John Gray took the publishing world by storm with this self-help bestseller Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. The book asserts that men and women are different, and that they should accept and cherish this difference in order to create a successful, loving relationship. These themes are touched on in the new comedy-drama series Venus vs. Mars (Tuesdays at 20:00 CAT), which is set in London. Venus (Letitia Hector) is a sassy single looking for Mr Right, but having to deal with eager exes, double dates gone wrong, and inappropriate crushes. It’s witty, heart-warming and true to life.
